I met Dandy Don in Hilton Head back in the 90’s , he was a speaker at the convention. My boys and I were in an elevator and I was wearing my standard Browns hat, he called me "Cleveland" every time he saw me through the weekend, he was always kind and friendly …. .. 3 years later I’m in Disneyland and I hear a man call to me …. "Hey, Cleveland" … .. He remembered me my families names ….
I’d love to meet the idiot or idiots who completely destroyed the Cleveland Browns uniforms. I can’t even look at them today. Let’s throw away a classic and make it disgusting looking. What a joke.
I saw this game when I was nine years old. My Dad let us boys stay up and watch it because the Browns were playing. Brings back memories. It’s refreshing to watch real men play football. Not like those cupcakes today where you get penalized for hurting someone’s feelings. I have not watched the NFL in years, not even that expansion team in Cleveland.
even though the game was heavily advertised i forgot it was on, walking home from the playground about 8:15 (it was dark) asked a friend what was up for his night , he told me ….MNF….he couldn`t believe i forgot ….we were all sportfans…..i watched it but fell asleep at halftime…i was 13. had to get the score from Stan Barron on wben radio 930 buffalo new york.
Roone Arledge was a very close friend of Curt Gowdy who at that time worked for NBC-Arledge wanted Gowdy to host ABC Monday Night Football but NBC refused to let Gowdy out of his contract-so Keith Jackson was hired
I don’t care what anyone says. I love the grass fields and the infield dirt. Even better when there is rain. Muddy uniforms, battling the elements, true football!
I went-to several football-games at Municipal Stadium; they were a blast. I went-to a Monday Night game, there, against San Francisco, in 1993; about five-seconds after my friends, and I, sat-down, two cops came-down the steps, and escorted a fan from his seat. I never saw, or heard, what that-guy had-done.
The thing I always notice when watching these old football games, is nobody is wearing any team colors, t shirts, or any kind of merchandise. So when did that become a thing? I was born in 79 so I have no idea
@21:18 goal post at the front of the end zone.
@22:05 Original Browns fight song playing the back ground.
@33:25 Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone) narration of Ford commercial.
Featuring all the Legends and stars. Both teams loaded with talent. Jets’ defense did a good job of bottling up Cleveland’s formidable sweeps.
Always great to watch Leroy Kelly run outside like that. If there was an opening for only a couple of seconds in traffic, he’d still slip through it and get yards others couldn’t.
Color balance on this tape is good and looks like Cleveland is wearing burnt orange helmets, and not the bright stuff that’d come later. Maybe it’s the stadium lighting?
Browns always had fullbacks that could be dangerous runners.
i had the same panasonic dvd cutter! i had 110 dvd’s until a move last year. NOW I have "vibes" jeff goldblum, cyndi lauper & peter falk & "eight legged freaks" with this menu. the second gen panasonic machines put little freeze frames of the video on the menu screen.
3:13:07: "…31 to 1." Hah!. I watched this on TV as an eleven year old, and always remembered Howard saying that. Probably because my dad couldn’t stand him.
I can watch Monday Night Football all evening, thanks to erbigfan and Youtube. Good catch at the 10 yard line in the first Q. Now, my devil children, what is the definition of a ‘beautifully executed pass’?
I’ll wait.
ABC should have kept Keith Jackson in the MNF booth along with Don Meredith and Frank Gifford and gave the boot to that annoying blabber mouth Howard Cosell.
I believe ABC hoped that the schedule would allow the opening game to be between Minnesota and Kansas City (who had played in the previous Super Bowl IV)–however the Minnesota Twins (who shared the Met Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota) wouldn’t move their schedule to allow it so this game was chosen
Tomorrow will be the first time these two met since this game
That was cool. I was 10 years old living in northeast ohio. Nelson ohio
Is this the very first Monday Night Football game?
Just kidding…

Sadly this was the beginning of the end for Broadway Joe.

At time-mark 3:15, Namath looks drunk, and / or stoned; but, who cares? What a talent.

First time the Jets faced the Browns.
Featuring all the Legends and stars. Both teams loaded with talent. Jets’ defense did a good job of bottling up Cleveland’s formidable sweeps.

Without this broadcast crew, including Howard, MNF would have been just football at night. Instead It became an institution.
ABC should have kept Keith Jackson in the MNF booth along with Don Meredith and Frank Gifford and gave the boot to that annoying blabber mouth Howard Cosell.
Illegal touching of the punt, a 15 yd penalty? What the hell was that?
Love the stiff-arm Andrews gives the Jet while he was running back the interception.
Always liked Keith Jackson. Classic Joe Namath pose at 3:06:16.
Joe Namath and those New York Jets uniforms…legendary.
I was 5 days old. Liked listening to Keith Jackson even then.
Damm. Namath had an arm!!
The was back in the day when they use to return the kickoffs. Now they just let it go or down it.
Who’s here from that wack NFL Throwback upload
This year, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield.
Checking this clip about 2 hrs before kickoff of cle@nyj, 50th season of mnf – big milestone for one of the great American prime time programs ever
Is this the last time the Jets were good?
