How can the Falcons free up cap space in 2021: Veteran cuts

The Falcons are in a difficult spot with the salary cap heading into the 2021 offseason, but they have a few options to clear cap space for re-signings and draft picks. Kevin takes a look at possible veteran cuts–including players like Ricardo Allen, Allen Bailey, and Dante Fowler–to see what sort of savings Atlanta can create.

A lot of these cuts gonna depend on when we cut players Pre June 1st or Post June 1st to get some cap relief to make a move or 2

The way TD and DQ handled the edge rusher situation boarders on criminal negligence.

Only player I want resigned on the defensive side is Keanu Neal. Ricardo Allen and Allen Bailey can go. I’m 50/50 on Dante Fowler right now.

Kev I’m supporter of u man I think you’re very intelligent and knowledgeable when it comes to speaking sports definitely about our Atlanta Falcons, So I’m gonna continue to follow updates from u and show some support. I’ve gotten some text messages from inside people that I know from the Falcons insider My Uncle is a close family friend of the Jarretts Grady Jarrett family and he said The Falcons are looking at Terry Fontenot V. P. GM of New Orleans as our GM and Arthur Smith as our Head Coach is that true if u know of?

Uncle went to Valdosta State with Grady’s dad Jessie Tuggle That’s the connection but I’m seeing this in the media as well

What if we cut carpenter, drafted Sewell. Flip Matthew’s to RT and slide mcgary down to guard. I don’t think he has the length or footwork for tackle, but those deficiencies are less apparent at guard.

    Pff grades:

    Rico Allen: 62.4
    Allen Bailey: 50.9
    James Carpenter: 56.1

Wouldn’t be losing much in these obvious cuts, especially with them being older and having little upside from now on

Great info Kevin. Hopefully the series will temper the same questions that come up time and time again. The one thing I’ll say with regards to no longer having edge defenders if Bailey and Fowler are gone is from a position standpoint, I don’t know that I see it that way.

Defensive fronts are pretty much multiple across the league, so calling teams 4-3, 3-4, etc, is antiquated. The DE or DT next to the name is a bit overblown now. I believe it’s more about who can play what techniques and gaps. With Bailey you lose a guy who can line up in multiple spots. Fowler is probably more of a 7/9 tech guy who plays the D gap. I think if the team finds some guys via free agency or the draft who can play those spots along the line, it should be fine to release them.

Between Grady, Cominsky, and Davidson, they have three guys who can line up at the 5/6 tech if we’re talking about further out on the line of scrimmage. I’d rather they try to bring back someone like a Means and Harris who are at least consistent with their monetary values. And focus on finding a partner for Grady at the 1 tech position who can help stuff the run and pressure up the middle.

More and more teams are trending towards a Shannahan/West Coast style offense and usng RPOs. I think to stay ahead of that curve, you should invest in bigger D-Linemen who can stuff the run and set the edge so you’re linebackers can roam free. Having a line that can shut down the run game on its own goes a long way in slowing that scheme down. I would prioritize that over pass rushing as you can scheme up pressure when needed by manipulating pass protection and playing the numbers game.

That’s why it’s a bad idea to draft a Qb in the first round.
    To many holes

There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Men for the Dante Fowler signing.
